On Thursday, April 9, toward the conclusion of Passion Week, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy for Great and Holy Thursday (commemorating the Mystical Supper) in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City.
Concelebrating with the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad were Bishop Theodosius of Manhattan and cathedral clergy: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky.
During the service, the Synodal choir sang prayerfully under the direction of Vadim S. Gan.
The divine services were held under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora – the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.
The gathered parishioners communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Metropolitan Nicholas congratulated all who had received Holy Communion that day, and spoke on the significance of the events that took place on this day many years ago in the presence of Jesus Christ.
That evening, Metropolitan Nicholas, co-served by Bishop Theodosius and the cathedral clergy, officiated at the Matins of Great and Holy Friday, featuring the reading of the Twelve Gospels of the Holy Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.
