On October 26, the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council, His Grace, Bishop Jerome (Shaw), paid an archpastoral visit to Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY, where he celebrated Divine Liturgy.
Concelebrating with His Grace were parish clerics: Archimandrite Gabriel (Pigarev), Archpriest Petro Kunitsky, and Deacon Eugene Grigoriak.
The church was filled with worshippers, most of whom communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
Bishop Jerome delivered a sermon on the exhortation of the Holy Apostle Paul to "remember them which have the rule over you" (or "remember your preceptors" – Hebrews 13:7) and those who have taught us, not only those who have provided the Canons (the Fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council) and who have set a good example, but also those who have shown us what not to do, such as the iconoclasts and those who have been poisoned by hate.
Liturgy was followed by a short moleben before Iveron-Hawaiian Icon of the Mother of God, with a prayer to Gabriel of Mt. Athos (Fr. Gabriel’s Heavenly patron, whose memory was celebrated the Thursday prior).
His Grace conveyed the greetings and blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, and the deacon intoned the Polychronion for the hierarchy, clergy, and those who had labored in anticipation of the feast.
There was an abundant luncheon served for all, with many dishes prepared by the parish sisterhood.
