On April 13, the great feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), Bishop Jerome (Shaw) celebrated Divine Liturgy in Nativity of the Mother of God Church at the New Kursk Root Hermitage in Mahopac, NY. Concelebrating with His Grace were parish clerics: rector Archpriest George Temidis and Deacons Konstantin Aleshin and Theodotus Conrad, as well as Priest Gregory Patsis (rector of St. Luke Mission in Highland, NY).
Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Bishop Jerome delivered a sermon on the feast. He noted the meaning of "Hosanna", and spoke on the phrase "As many as have been baptized into Christ" (Galatians 3:27) ‒ "Hosanna" translates into Slavonic and Russian as "Спаси же", and in Hebrew comes from the same root as the name "Jesus." The reference to "having been baptized" points out to there being only One Baptism, into the One Christ, and thus there is One Church and One Truth.
After the service, a festal luncheon featuring delicious fish dishes was held in the parish hall.
That evening, His Grace officiated Bridegroom Matins, the first service of Passion Week.
