New York City: On Feast of Uncovering of Relics of St. John of Shanghai, Metropolitan Nicholas celebrates Liturgy in St. Sergius Church

On Saturday, October 12, the feast of the uncovering of the incorrupt and much-healing relics of the Holy Hierarch John, Archbishop of Shanghai & San Francisco, the Wonderworker, His Eminence Nicholas, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, celebrated Divine Liturgy in St. Sergius of Radonezh Church at the Synodal Headquarters in New York City.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were Archpriest Vasily Zelenyuk (rector of Our Lady "Unexpected Joy" Church in Staten Island, NY) and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (cathedral cleric), in the presence of praying clergy and faithful.

In his homily at the end of Liturgy, His Eminence noted that on each floor of the Synodal residence there is an icon of St. John, which reminds us that as a member of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad, he often celebrated the divine services here and had his own cell, where, according to tradition, his successors in the Western American cathedra stay. This also testifies to the fact that the fervent intercession and prayerful help of St. John accompany us to this day in our church life.

Congratulating everyone on the feast, Metropolitan Nicholas invoked God's blessing upon all.

Interaction between the archpastor, clergy, and parishioners continued at a luncheon.
