On Sunday, April 28, the great feast of the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, and officiated the All Night Vigil on the eve of the feast ‒ Saturday, April 27,.
Serving alongside the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad were: cathedral dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov, Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan), and Protodeacons Nicolas Mokhoff & Serge Arlievsky (cathedral clerics).
The Synodal choir sang masterfully under the direction of Vadim S. Gan.
The services were held under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora ‒ the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.
A multitude of parishioners and faithful from other churches in the city gathered to pray in the Synodal cathedral. Most of these communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Metropolitan Nicholas greeted all with the feast.
A traditional plate collection was held in the cathedral to benefit the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, which is held every year on Palm Sunday. Metropolitan Nicholas read the appeal of the Mission Chief, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky) and encouraged, especially in these trying times, supporting the monastics laboring in the Holy Land.
The sisterhood prepared a festal luncheon for the clergy and faithful in the cathedral hall.
