On November 5, the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. Concelebrating with the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad were: Archpriest Andrei Sommer (cathedral dean), Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov (cleric of Our Lady of Kazan Church in Newark, NJ), Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan; cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY), Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric), and Hierodeacon Panteleimon (Jigalin; diocesan cleric).
Singing at Liturgy was the Synodal choir under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan.
Liturgy was held under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora – the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God. A large number of parishioners gathered to pray at the service, most of whom communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
His Eminence thanked the clergy for their joint service and the faithful for their prayers, and addressed those present with a sermon on the Rich Man and Lazarus.
Upon conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Nicholas departed for Atlanta, where the following day he celebrate Liturgy in honor of the patronal feast of Joy of All Who Sorrow Church.
