Stratford, CT: HTOS Professor delivers Educational Lectures at Holy Presentation Church

Trinity Orthodox Seminary in Jordanville, NY, concelebrated at Divine Liturgy with the clergy of Holy Presentation Church in Stratford, CT, and after lunch delivered a lecture for parishioners and guests entitled "The History of the Russian Orthodox Church: Part II – the Muscovite Period."

Fr. Andrei first visited Holy Presentation Church in May 2022, delivering a lecture entitled "A Brief Course on the History of the Russian Church Abroad." The detailed overview and multifaceted approach to the material elicited great interest among the audience, and parishioners asked the speaker to visit the parish again with a lecture on the subject "What is Canon Law?", which took place in the fall of last year. Various questions and answers touched on aspects relating to the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, and were of great interest to those present. As a result, the parishioners of Holy Presentation Church asked Fr. Protodeacon to conduct a short series of lectures on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. Fr. Andrei agreed, and in December 2022 delivered the first part of this series.

The lectures are supplemented by visual materials projected on a large screen, which makes them more comfortable for viewing, and the audience can always pose questions, which Fr. Andrei very much welcomes. The most recent lecture touched on contemporary issues relating to the division of the Kievan Metropolitanate in the 13th century.

The lecture series " The History of the Russian Orthodox Church" that Fr. Andrei has prepared consists of four parts. Part III ‒ the Synodal Period and Part IV ‒ Recent Times (20th and 21st centuries) will, God willing, be delivered in Stratford this summer and fall.

The parishioners are very grateful to Fr. Protodeacon for his labors and willingness to conduct this illuminating work in the parishes. Fr. Andrei’s lectures help engender the feeling that even such small "village" parishes like that in Stratford are a living and integral part of the Russian Orthodox Church, with its rich history, its saints, and its traditions. Moreover, they give a sense of belonging to World Orthodoxy in general, to the Church of Christ, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail.
