Washington, DC: Iveron Cemetery Chapel Vandalized
After serving Divine Liturgy on Sunday, May 7, Archpriest Victor Potapov (rector of St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC) received a call from a parishioner who had been at the capital’s Rock Creek Cemetery visiting the grave of her son. She informed Fr. Victor that the Iveron Cemetery Chapel had been vandalized.
When Fr. Victor arrived, he found that the glass of the entrance door was smashed and the door lock was opened from the inside. Items were strewed over the floor, the face of the icon of St. John of Shanghai and the walls were covered with gold spray paint, wine was opened and drunk, among other damage.
Police were called and a report filed.
