New York: ROCOR Hierarchs celebrate Divine Services in Diocesan Parishes for feast of Nativity of the Theotokos

On Tuesday the 20th and Sunday the 21st of September, the great feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, divine services were officiated in the churches and monasteries of the Eastern American Diocese by hierarchs of the Russian Church Abroad, who arrived for the work of the Council of Bishop a week prior.

As reported earlier, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City.

Bishop Irenei of London & Western Europe celebrated Divine Liturgy in St. Seraphim Memorial Church in Sea Cliff, NY. His Grace was co-served by rector Archpriest Serafim Gan and parish clerics Protodeacons Pavel Wolkow and Eugene Kallaur. At the conclusion of the service, Fr. Serafim greeted Bishop Irenei, as well as the parishioners of his diocesan cathedral in London who were celebrating their patronal feast day.

In neighboring Glen Cove, NY, Bishop John of Caracas & South America officiated the festal All-Night Vigil and celebrated Divine Liturgy in Holy Intercession Church, co-served by rector Archpriest Alexandre Antchoutine.

In Mahopac, NY, Bishop Theodosius of Seattle, vicar of the Western American Diocese, officiated the divine services for the patronal feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God Church at the New Kursk Root Hermitage, co-served by Bishop Jerome (Shaw), Archpriest Dimitri Jakimowicz (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Stratford, CT), Priest George Temidis (rector of the Hermitage), parish Deacons Alexey Pnev and Konstantin Aleshin, and Deacon David Dutkanicz (cleric of St. Nicholas Church in Stratford).

The feast was especially joyous in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. Monastery abbot Bishop Luke of Syracuse and Bishop Job of Stuttgart (vicar of the Diocese of Germany) officiated the divine services for the feast, concelebrated by monastery and visiting clergy.

Bringing immense joy to the faithful and brethren was the presence of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, while en route to the Diocese of Canada. With the blessing of the Synod of Bishops, Deacon Andrew Doubleday was elevated to the rank of protodeacon for his dedicated service to the Church.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Bishop Luke greeted Bishop Job on his first visit to the monastery.
