New York City: Bishop Nicholas officiates Divine Services for Feast of Ascension in Synodal Cathedral

On the great feast of the Ascension of the Lord, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan officiated All-Night Vigil on Wednesday the 1st and celebrated Divine Liturgy on Thursday the 2nd of June in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City.

Serving alongside His Grace at the divine services were: Archpriest Andrei Sommer (cathedral dean), Abbot Arseny (Manko; rector of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ), Priest Živojin Jakovljević (cleric of the Serbian Church in the USA), Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric), and Hierodeacon Panteleimon (Jigalin; diocesan cleric).

The Synodal choir sang beautifully at Liturgy under the direction of Elizabeth Ledkovsky.

Despite its being a weekday, parishioners, as well as faithful from other churches in the city, gathered to pray in the Synodal cathedral, the majority of whom communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas greeted everyone with the feast, and addressed those gathered with a sermon, in which he spoke about the meaning of the feast, noting that we "are called to have our souls be reborn, to strive to make our lives divine, in order to stand next to God in the Heavens. The Lord, departing, blessed the apostles and left His blessing here," on earth ‒ for those who believe on Him.
