New York City: Bishop Nicholas officiates Patronal Feast of St. Sergius Chapel at Synodal Headquarters

On Thursday the 7th and Friday the 8th of October, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan officiated the divine services in honor of the patronal feast of St. Sergius of Radonezh Chapel at the Synodal Headquarters in New York City.

Serving alongside His Grace were: Archpriests Serafim Gan (chancellor of the Synod of Bishops), Mark Burachek (dean of the Hudson Valley), Andrei Sommer (dean of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign), and Edward Chervinsky (cathedral cleric), Abbot Zosimas (Krampis; rector of the English Mission at St. Sergius Chapel), Protodeacons Nicolas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric) and Serge Arlievsky (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY), and Deacon Matthew Keil (cleric of the English Mission).

The All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy were held under the aegis of the wonderworking Kursk root Icon of the Mother of God. Praying at the divine services was Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal & Canada.

Singing at Liturgy was the Synodal choir under the direction of Elizabeth Ledkovsky. Almost all of the parishioners communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries on this festal day.

Upon completion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas greeted the clergy and faithful with the feast and noted how important it is that the Lord God is glorified in this particular church every day.

"Venerable Sergius was close to God and to people. He was visited by princes, princesses, monastics, and faithful laity. He received everybody with love and prayed for all. The church dedicated to his memory in New York City is also home to pieces of his relics, and is frequently visited by the Holy Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God."

His Grace called on the faithful to always remember with gratitude those who did much to organize this church: those who served there and its benefactors, and to themselves attend here and to invite others, to preserve our historic traditions and pass them on to others.

A festal luncheon was prepared in the cathedral hall for clergy and parishioners, during which their interaction continued.
