Nyack, NY: Metropolitan Hilarion to lead Divine Services in honor of Archpriest Seraphim Slobodskoy

Friday, November 5, will mark the 50th anniversary of the passing of one of the most influential ROCOR priests of the 20th century, Archpriest Seraphim Slobodskoy. He was not only the builder of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY, but also the founder of the Nyack Russian School, and was deeply involved in the growth of the Russian Orthodox youth Camp NORR (Association of Russian Explorers) in the Catskill Mountains. The book authored by him, The Law of God, has garnered worldwide repute, published in several languages, used not only for parochial schools but also in seminaries, and remains well known and loved in Russia to this day.

On Saturday, November 6, St. Demetrius Soul Saturday, Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack will host a hierarchical Liturgy at 9:00 AM, celebrated by His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. After Liturgy, a panihida will be served for Fr. Seraphim and his Matushka Elena. There will be a commemorative luncheon, during which Fr. Seraphim’s memory and legacy will be remembered by the people who knew him and the organizations he helped shape. All are welcome to join!

Given the current issues with the ongoing pandemic, we request that all must wear masks during the services and when not seated at your table in the hall. The services and luncheon commemorations will also be livestreamed on the parish’s YouTube channel here.

Memory Eternal the ever-memorable Archpriest Seraphim!
