Jordanville, NY: Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal & Canada officiates Divine Services for Patronal Feast of Holy Trinity Seminary

On Friday, February 12, Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY celebrated its annual patronal feast day of the Three Great Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom.

Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal & Canada celebrated Divine Liturgy. He was co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan and monastery abbot Bishop Luke of Syracuse, as well as visiting and monastery clergy.

The chanting of the services was done by the entire seminary choir, under the direction of Deacon Nicholas Kotar.  What was notable this year was that, under the auspices of the newly enacted "Living Liturgy" program, the chanting was done on both kliroi both for Vigil and also for Divine Liturgy.  This greatly added to the solemnity of the services.  What is unique in the seminary’s celebration of the feast of the Three Hierarchs is the use of several Greek melodies and even the liturgical Greek language for many of the hymns.  This, as it were, helps connect those present with the Byzantine times of the holy hierarchs.

Due to COVID regulations, the seminary was not able to have its traditional afternoon tea for all; however, Bishop Luke, rector of the seminary, did invite the visiting hierarchs for a private tea to discuss seminary developments.
