On Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th of September, the great feast of the Exaltation of the Life-Creating Cross of the Lord, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, paid an archpastoral visit to St. Luke the Blessed Surgeon Church in its new location in Pompano Beach, FL, and officiated divine services.
On Saturday evening, His Grace led the All-Night Vigil, which concluded with the Rite of the Exaltation of the Cross, co-served by parish rector Priest Demetrio Romeo, Protodeacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ), and parish Deacon Dmitri Pavlenkov. The following morning, the archpastor celebrated Divine Liturgy, co-served by the above-mentioned clergy, joined by Archpriest Serge Prisacaru (diocesan cleric).
Prior to the start of Liturgy, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion, Juan Goncalves was tonsured a reader. He will serve at Holy Apostles Mission in Miami.
The parish choir, led by Katya and Alexis Lukianov and joined by singers from around the Diocese, sang the divine services beautifully and prayerfully.
Upon completion of the festal Liturgy, on behalf of Metropolitan Hilarion, Bishop Nicholas greeted the clergy and parishioners with the feast, and delivered a beautiful sermon on the Exaltation of the Cross, urging the faithful to take up our crosses and follow Christ.
The hierarch thanked all traveling clergy, altar servers, and faithful who came and the members of the sisterhood and volunteers who helped make the feast special and memorable. Upon completion of the service, a festal luncheon was held, during which the clergy and parishioners continued their interaction with their archpastor.
