Bristol, VA: St. Tikhon Church needs a New Church Building to serve Tennessee & Virginia Tri-Cities

Saint Tikhon Russian Orthodox Church is a multicultural parish serving the Orthodox faithful of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee, including the cities of Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol. The parish was established as a mission in 1999 with the blessing of Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan (now Archbishop of Montreal & Canada). Having been served by visiting clergy during its first eleven years, Archpriest Matthew Williams was assigned as the parish's first permanent rector in the spring of 2011.

Dear in the Lord fathers, brothers, and sisters!

We humbly request your prayers and financial assistance in securing a permanent place of worship that is safe and peaceful for the Orthodox faithful in the Virginia & Tennessee Tri-Cities area!

In short, the church building on Euclid Avenue in Bristol, VA that has served our parish well for many years is no longer structurally sound and cannot be repaired effectively. At this time, we have the opportunity to purchase a property (including a church building and rectory) situated on 3.5 acres at 221 Franklin Drive in Blountville, TN (a 15-minute drive from our current location) that could be adapted as a suitable place of Orthodox worship. We are unlikely to find a more financially advantageous situation.

We are currently worshiping at the Franklin Drive location, which we have leased short-term, and are pursuing an agreement to purchase the property. There are other interested buyers, so we must move quickly in being able to raise additional funds to make the purchase and necessary renovations.

If we are unable to raise sufficient funds, we risk losing not only the opportunity to purchase the property, but also of having a current place to worship in the interim of securing something else.

May God abundantly bless all who have and continue to sacrifice to build a church to His glory!

In Christ,

Archpriest Matthew Williams
