New York City: On Sunday of Orthodoxy, Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates Liturgy, leads Rite of Orthodoxy in Synodal Cathedral

On the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, March 8, on which date the Orthodox Church also commemorates the First and Second Findings of the Head of St. John the Forerunner, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy and led the Rite of Orthodoxy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. Concelebrating with the hierarchs were: Archpriest Elias Gorsky (rector of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY), cathedral dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Edward Chervinsky (cathedral cleric), Priest Leonid Kotofana (cleric of Holy Annunciation Church in Flushing, NY), Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric), Protodeacon Eugene Kallaur (cleric of St. Seraphim Memorial Church in Sea Cliff, NY), and Deacon Nicholas Ilyin (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent  "Novo-Divoeevo" in Nanuet, NY). The Synodal choir sang under the direction of Protodeacon Vadimir Gan.

Present at the service for veneration by the faithful was the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God. Most parishioners confessed their sins and communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of the service, Metropolitan Hilarion spoke about why the Triumph of Orthodoxy is observed during Great Lent, and explained the significance of the Rite of Orthodoxy. His Eminence called on the faithful to be grow stronger in the spiritual life, and continue achieving salvation in the Orthodox Church.

The hierarchs then served the Triumph of Orthodoxy. Joining the serving clergy were diocesan clerics: Archimandrite Elevferiy (Skiba; dean of Our Lady "The Inexhaustible Chalice" Church in Brooklyn, NY), Archpriest Mark Burachek (rector of Our Lady of Kazan Church in Newark, NJ), Abbot Zosimas (Krampis; rector of the Synod’s English mission), and Hieromonk Laurus (Solomonov; cleric of Our Lady "The Inexhaustible Chalice" Church).

After the service, the sisterhood prepared a lenten luncheon for the clergy and parishioners.
