New York City: On Great Feast of Nativity, Metropolitan Hilarion leads Services in Synodal Cathedral

On Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th of January, the great feast of Christ’s Nativity, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. The evening prior, the hierarchs served the festal All-Night Vigil. Concelebrating with the bishops were cathedral clerics: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Edward Chervinsky, Abbot Tikhon (Gayfudinov), and Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff, as well as Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY). Singing the services was an expanded Synodal choir under the direction of Protodeacon Vadim Gan.

The service was held under the aegis of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God. A multitude of the faithful from throughout New York City and neighboring states came to the cathedral to adore the newborn Divine Christ Child. Virtually all of the worshippers communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of the service, Metropolitan Hilarion greeted the clergy and parishioners with the radiant feast. A festal reception was then held in the cathedral hall. Bishop Nicholas reminded those gathered that this year the Russian Church Abroad celebrates the centennial of its founding, and wished His Eminence God’s aid, that the path of his service as First Hierarch might always be illumined by the star of Bethlehem.
