Bishkek, Kyrgystan: Bishop Nicholas participates in Liturgy in Holy Resurrection Diocesan Cathedral

On Tuesday, September 10, Metropolitan Vikenty (Vincent) of Tashkent & Uzbekistan, Bishop Daniel of Bishkek & Kyrgyzstan, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, the clergy of the Diocese of Bishkek, and visiting clerics of the Russian Church Abroad concelebrated Divine Liturgy in Holy Resurrection Diocesan Cathedral in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan.

This great holy icon of the Orthodox world – the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" – is in the second day of its visitation to the cathedral, attracting many Orthodox citizens of Kyrgyzstan for joint prayer and veneration. Over 150 people approached the chalice for Holy Communion.

Upon conclusion of Liturgy, a short moleben was served by the holy image. Then, the head of the Central Asian Metropolitanate addressed the parishioners with an archpastoral sermon, in which he spoke about the history of the Kursk Root Icon and underscored God’s great mercy in the visitation of the icon. His Eminence also expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, for giving his blessing for the icon to travel here.

Bishop Nicholas then presented Bishop Daniel with a copy of the icon of the Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia, the original of which is located in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY.
