Methuen, MA: St. Xenia Church embarks on Expansion Project

With God’s blessing, the parish of Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg in Methuen, MA has nearly doubled in size over the last eight years! Average Sunday attendance in 2011 was 75, while today it is closer to 150, and the parish is continuing to grow. With this increase in parishioners, what was once a small cemetery parish is now in need of expansion. The proposed renovation will double the size of the existing nave and narthex.

Because the project will have the church space expand into and essentially eliminate the current parish hall, construction is proposed to create a new hall to foster fellowship within the church community. The full walk-out basement will provide much-needed space to expand church school classes. A larger bookstore and church-sponsored events are also among future possibilities.

This is a big stretch financially for the parish, and any donations are greatly appreciated. The project will likely exceed $800,000. The parish has sufficient funds to get started, and is in the process of securing additional financing to assure completion.
