New York City: On Feast of Our Lady of Bogolyubovo, Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates Liturgy in Synodal Cathedral

On Sunday, June 1, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. His Eminence was co-served by Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan and cathedral clerics: Archpriest Edward Chervinsky, Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff, and Deacon Pavel Roudenko.

This date marks the commemoration of the Bogolyubovo Icon of the Mother of God, much revered in Russia. The day prior, Saturday, June 30, the feast of Holy Hierarch John of San Francisco was celebrated in the Synodal Cathedral. Liturgy was celebrated by the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Metropolitan Hilarion. Bishop Nicholas participated in the festal services in Joy of All Who Sorrow Cathedral in San Francisco, where the relics of St. John are housed and where – four years prior – Bishop Nicholas was elevated to the episcopacy.

Singing at the services was the hierarchal choir under the direction of Peter Fekula. Many communed of the Holy Mysteries of Christ.

Metropolitan Hilarion congratulated all with the Lord’s Day, and reminded them of an important upcoming event – the centennial of the martyrdom of the Royal Family. On July 17, Divine Liturgy will be served in the Synodal Cathedral and a bust of the Tsar-Martyr Nicholas II will be consecrated. Metropolitan Hilarion invited all to the event.

His Eminence also congratulated Bishop Nicholas with the anniversary of his elevation to the episcopacy. The protodeacon intoned the Polychronion for His Grace.

A lenten luncheon was organized for clergy and faithful in the cathedral hall.
