The gathered faithful fervently prayed for the health of their archpastor, and under the aegis of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of the service, Bishop Nicholas congratulated His Eminence with his namesday, saying that, "Primatial prayer can be felt on earth and ascends to the heavens. Shared prayer is a power that bears witness to the fact that we are together, that together we glorify God." His Grace wished Metropolitan Hilarion God’s aid and the aid of all of the saints, wishing for him to continue being a good shepherd and man of prayer, who leads us all to salvation.

On behalf of the Eastern American Diocese, Bishop Nicholas presented the First Hierarch with an archpastoral staff.

Metropolitan Hilarion thanked the clergy and laity for their kind words and prayers, noting that shared prayer rises to the Heavenly Kingdom to our Heavenly Father, and wished for all good health, strength, and God’s ever-present grace.

A festal luncheon was then served in the cathedral hall for the clergy and faithful, prepared by the sisterhood and brotherhood of the Cathedral of the Sign. At the luncheon, those who work and serve alongside the Metropolitan offered many warm words to His Eminence, wishing him good health for continued service for the benefit of the Russian Church Abroad for many years to come.
