On Lazarus Saturday, April 8, Metropolitan Hilarion paid a traditional visit to the Stavropegial Metochion in Brooklyn, NY – the Church of our Lady "The Inexhaustible Chalice" – and celebrated Divine Liturgy there. At the entrance to the church, His Eminence was greeted with flowers and bread and salt by the parish’s head sister and treasurer.
The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad was co-served by parish rector Archpriest Alexandre Antchoutine and dean Hieromonk Elevferiy (Skiba), as well as Archpriest Ion Arama (rector of Holy Annunciation Church in Flushing, NY), Hieromonk Tikhon (Gayfudinov; abbot of Holy Protection Skete in Buena, NJ), and Deacon Vladimir Barros (cleric of Holy Virgin Intercession Church in Glen Cove, NY).
At the Little Entrance, for his many years of service on behalf of the Russian Church Abroad and the Synod of Bishops, Deacon Vladimir Barros was elevated to the rank of protodeacon.
The parish choir sang the divine service beautifully, under the direction of conductor Zlata Mishina; a large number of parishioners came to lift up their prayers, and many of them communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
During the Communion of the clergy, Fr. Tikhon addressed the faithful with a sermon, in which he spoke about the significance of the feast and touched on the historic moments behind it, specifically the Gospel narrative of the resurrection of the righteous Lazarus.
Upon completion of the Liturgy, Metropolitan Hilarion read a prayer and blessed the pussy willows to be distributed to the faithful the following day – Palm Sunday. His Eminence congratulated the clergy and parishioners with the coming feasts, thanked them for their heartfelt welcome, and promised – whenever able – to visit the Metochion and spiritually nourish the faithful there. The Metropolitan then proceeded to the dean’s residence, where the clergy met for a luncheon and brotherly interaction.
