Kursk: Visitation of ROCOR Hierarchs to Kursk Root Hermitage

On Sunday, September 24, the feast day of Venerable Silvanus (Silouan) of Mt. Athos, Archbishop Mark of Berlin & Germany celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Kursk Root Hermitage, co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, monastery clergy, and clerics accompanying the Eastern American Diocesan vicar on his pilgrimage. Singing the divine service were two choirs: the monastic male choir and a youth and children’s choir, "Lampada," from the Sunday School of All Saints Church in Kursk.

Archbishop Mark addressed the faithful with a sermon, in which he, in part, called on them to come to the wonderworking icon, receiving from it God’s grace and preserving it in their hears.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a moleben was served. A fraternal luncheon was then held, during which the monastery’s rector, Abbot Seraphim (Kotelnikov) presented Bishop Nicholas with a case for the Kursk Root Icon, as well as a Cross and Panagia set. Archbishop Mark was presented a panagia with an icon of Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, as well as a set of gold vestments.

That same day, a memorial plaque was unveiled in the Kursk Root Hermitage in memory of the founder and curator of the Historic Cultural Center "Root Hermitage," Vyacheslav Lysykh. Before the monument was unveiled, Bishop Nicholas served a memorial Litiya for the repose of His Holiness Alexey II, Patriarch of Moscow & All Russia, Schema-Metropolitan Juvenaly of Kursk, and Vyacheslav Lysykh.
