Manhattan, NY: The Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" completed its travels through the Eastern American Diocese

On Monday, February 8, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign," the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, completed its travels through the Eastern American Diocese. Flying into New York from Atlanta, diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov and those accompanying him made haste to the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign, where the icon was greeted by the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.

On Sunday, February 7, upon completion of the Divine Liturgy in St. Mary of Egypt Church, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the second St. Mary of Egypt Church (OCA) in Atlanta, where it was met in procession by the rector, Archpriest Peter Smith, co-serving clergy, and a multitude of the faithful.

On Sunday, February 7, on Meatfare Sunday and the feast of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Mary of Egypt Russian Orthodox Church in Atlanta, GA. The Divine Liturgy was led by the rector, Archpriest John Townsend.

On Saturday, February 6, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of St. John the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco (OCA) in Atlanta, GA. The parish is the first church in the world to be take St. John as its heavenly intercessor. The wonder-working icon was greeted in front of the church by the rector, Priest Jacob Myers, and co-serving clergy.

On Saturday, February 6, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of Our Lady, Joy of all who Sorrow, in Atlanta, GA. The wonder-working icon was greeted in procession by the parishioners and rector, Archpriest Alexis Duncan. The Liturgy for the Departed then began, celebrated by the rector.

On Friday, February 5, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Annunciation Greek Cathedral, the seat of Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta (Ecumenical Patriarchate), in Atlanta, capital of Georgia. Under the pealing of bells, the clergy and parishioners of the cathedral greeted the icon, and the Small Compline with akathist began.

On Thursday the 4th and Friday the 5th of February, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited churches in northeastern Florida. On the road to Jacksonville, the icon’s retinue stopped in St. Augustine, the oldest continually inhabited city in the United States (founded 1565).

On Wednesday, February 3, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Nicholas Church in Palm Coast, FL. The icon was greeted by His Grace, Bishop Victor (formerly of Podolsk – retired) and a multitude of the faithful. After the greeting of the icon, His Grace led a moleben with akathist.

Daytona Beach, Florida: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Andrew’s Church

On Wednesday, February 3, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God returned to the east coast of Florida to visit the newly established Mission of St. Andrew the First-Called in the town of Daytona Beach. The faithful, led by their rector, Archpriest Andrey Pastukh, joyously greeted the Heavenly Queen with flowers in front of the church.

Saint Petersburg, FL: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Sava Church

On Wednesday, February 4, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Sava Serbian Church in St. Petersburg, FL. The rector, Archpriest Stefan Zaremba, and parishioners greeted the icon in front of the church to the peal of bells and then the moleben with akathist began.

Bradenton, FL: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Mark Church

On Tuesday, February 2, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of St. Mark the Apostle and Evangelist (OCA) in Bradenton, FL. Under the sound of pealing bells, the rector and parishioners greeted the icon in the old Russian style with bread and salt.

February 3, 2010
On Tuesday, February 2, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Nicholas Monastery in North Ft. Myers, FL. The icon was greeted to the peal of bells by Abbess Andrea, Mother Anna, and pilgrims who had come to venerate the wonder-working icon.

Dear Father Rectors and Clerics of the Eastern American Diocese, Please bear in mind that the Eastern American Diocese Lenten retreat and pastoral conference at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA, on March 1-3 of this year, is rapidly approaching. We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Archpriest Artemy and Matushka Elena Vladimirov, who will make presentations and hold discussions during the conference.
