Wayne, WV: The Diocesan Council is organizing volunteers to participate in the second VIM project of 2010 at Holy Cross Monastery

With the blessing of His Grace, Bishop George, a building team is being formed to go to the Hermitage of the Holy Cross in Wayne, WV. The team will work June 6-12, primarily on the monastery grounds, to help the brotherhood prepare for their yearly Pilgrimage Weekend (October 2-3 this year), when large numbers of the faithful come to "The Little Mountain."

The team will also have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the monastic life of the community there and attend some of the monastic services. There will also be evening programs that will deal with issues of Orthodox spirituality.

The minimum age for team members is 18, and both men and women may apply. While there is no set fee for this event, we would ask that each team member seek to raise donations from their church and family to help cover the cost of meals and materials. Any money left after the week will be donated to the monastery.

Space is currently limited to 15 team members, so please apply as soon as possible. If you are interested in participating, simply fill out the attached "Volunteers in Mission" application and mail it to the address on the form.

Daily Schedule:

8:00 AM: Morning Prayers and Breakfast

9:00 AM: Work

12:00 PM: Lunch

1:00 PM: Work

4:00 PM: Break

5:00 PM: Dinner

7:00 PM: Evening worship or program

On Friday evening, team members will attend Vespers and Matins in the monastery church. During the evening services, all the participants will have an opportunity to confess and prepare for Holy Communion at Saturday morning’s Divine Liturgy.

The official program will end Saturday morning, but some may wish to stay for the hierarchal services on Sunday, led by Bishop George. If you wish to stay until Sunday, please inform us now, so that proper arrangements for housing and meals can be arranged.

If you are accepted, we will send you an information sheet that will help you plan for the work week.

Please click here to print the application and mail to Fr. John as soon as possible
